EGG WHITE COCKTAILS

08/24/2015

eggwhitecocktails_Bleubird

Four egg white cocktail recipes that I’m dying to try / Paloma Sour. Rosemary no. 03 Blood Orange Negroni. Swamp Spice Flip. Sweet Thai Basil Smash.

When I first heard of egg white cocktails, I was immediately turned off—eggs and booze? No, thank you. But after a couple of years and a lot of peer-pressure from my cocktail-loving friends, I finally tried one and now I get it. The egg white adds a foamy texture (much like thin layer of meringue) to the cocktail without the eggy taste, making for a rich and creamy indulgence. I am an instant convert and tend to steer towards any drink that includes egg on the menu.

P.S. Four more drinks I want to try.

here are a few photos from our halloween. sailor was fozzie bear, plum was rainbow dash from my little pony, julian was waldo and birdie was a kitty cat. we had to go trick-or-treating last night due to thunderstorms and a tornado warning the night before, but no one seemed to mind. it was such a fun couple of halloween filled days. i especially enjoyed looking at all of the costumes on instagram. so entertaining. i also enjoyed looking at the hashtag #miley on twitter halloween night. really funny stuff.

we're taking this weekend easy to nurse a couple of colds that are still lingering through the house. i would love to hear some of the creative costumes you saw this halloween was. it'll give us some good ideas for next year. have a great weekend.

another halloween has come and gone. this year wasn't strategically thought out and planned ahead of time like i try to do most years. i didn't sew any costumes, in fact costumes were kind of thrown together the day before. later that night we decided that it would be fun to bake pumpkin pies on halloween morning, so julian and i headed out to the market after the babies were in bed. we bought two cans of pumpkin, two can of condensed milk, two pie crusts and a few last minute things that were needed for costumes. the morning of we tried so hard to get everything done on our list of to-do's, but we were all so scattered that we didn't get to baking any pies. soon it was afternoon and there were still no pies. before we knew it six o'clock rolled around and our friends were arriving to go trick or treating. it was time for the main event. the sun was going down so i quickly rounded up each kid and snapped a few individual photos and then out the door we went. the camera stayed home.

we had an incredibly fun night enjoying our family, friends and neighbors. i love to see all of the creative costumes and the teeny tiny kiddos all dressed up. papa wore sailor while he slept the entire time, the big kids ran ahead with their friends and i helped birdie and her little pals trick or treat from house to house. we came back home and while the littles counted their loot, the adults had some wine and cut cake in honor of our friend elise's birthday. it was a late night. it was a great night.

i hope your halloween was spooky and fun. did you or your kids dress up?

Spookythis spooky photo was taken by my handsome husband.

halloween is just around the corner so our house is now decorated in webs and pumpkins. this week we are making costumes. milla plum wants to be the rabbit from alice and wonderland and julian wants to be a pig from minecraft. ha! not sure what the little two will be just yet, but we are thinking birdie will be kitty cat and baby sailor could be a little french guy complete with mustache, baguette and beret. it's tough dressing up a tiny baby.

we have a busy weekend ahead of us with the kids halloween carnival and another big kiddo halloween party to attend. needless to say the kids are stoked. you can see some past halloween carnival pictures here. look how much juj and plum have grown in so little time. where does the time go?

i'm excited for all of that halloween candy. i like to steal the tootsie rolls and butterfingers. shhh.

i am loving the new stella mccartney kids autumn/winter '12 collection. this season the clothes have everything from wolves, to horses, to bunnies and monsters on them. stella mccartney kids is doing a fun spin on halloween by celebrating "stellaween" this week and we got to preview these adorable pumpkin stencils that can be downloaded from the stella mccartney kids tumblr tomorrow. we had so much fun picking out pumpkins and carving them during our "stellaween" pumpkin & donut party. the kids are wearing clothing from the autumn/winter '12 collection that is available online now and my dresses are stella mccartney, one of my absolute favorite designers. be sure to keep up with stella mccartney kids on their facebook page or on instagram @stella_mccartneykids.
