My name is James Kicinski-McCoy. I was born in a small town on an Indian reservation in South Dakota. At the age of two my mother and I moved to Trinidad, West Indies with her family and frolicked along the sandy beaches until moving to Boulder, Colorado when I was four. After growing up with many different hometowns, going back and forth from cities and states, and the numerous stories and memories that each place holds, I some how ended up here, in the music city of Nashville, Tennessee. I am a hard-working mother of four and have wonderful, supportive husband. Thank you for stopping by!
I started this blog in the winter of 2008 as a companion to my then clothing store, Bleubird Vintage, to promote the line and my work as a stylist and to create a relationship with my buyers and clients. Over the years the space evolved and became a personal outlet to share the things I love, my inspirations, family photos and random thoughts. In 2011, I started blogging full-time and the site became a daily read for tens of thousands. Bleubird the blog slowly grew into a business and brand of its own. It gave me the opportunity to create my own schedule, work from home alongside my husband who also works from home and raise our children. I started doing freelance work as a brand strategist for online and brick and mortar stores, helping them choose product and inventory. I have worked alongside designers to help develop new products for their lines and partnered on brand collaborations, styling, and marketing for clients like Barney’s NY, Target, Madewell, West Elm, Stella McCartney, The Honest Co., Hunter, Minnetonka, Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Olay, and Bugaboo.
In early 2014, I launched a new site called MOTHER alongside my business partner Katie Hintz-Zambrano. Together we filled a giant void in the market and launched a cool destination for new moms, veteran moms, and moms-to-be with both inspiration and information.
In December of 2015, my husband Aubrey and I opened our first brick & mortar store in Nashville, TN. Two Son is a women’s and men’s clothing, accessories, and home store with an excellent selection of well-curated goods and our own Two Son label of apparel.
CAN YOU FEATURE MY PROJECT OR PRODUCT ON BLEUBIRD?
You can visit my contact page to see how to make your submission.
HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR BLOG?
I generate income through affiliate links, brand collaborations, and sponsored posts. I work closely with my partners to develop relationships and help expand their brands. I am very selective and only post about things that I genuinely like or have and highly recommend. All sponsored posts will be clearly stated as such.
WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
I shoot with a Canon Mark III and various lenses. The two I use most are the Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG HMS and the Canon 50mm 1.4.
HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?
I use Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom.
IS JAMES YOUR REAL NAME?
James is my nickname, but it is what most people call me. My Mom wanted to name me Jameson, but my Dad thought it was a boy’s name, so they named me Aimee, after the Pure Prairie League song “Amie.” You can call me James.
DO YOU STILL HOMESCHOOL?
I do not. I did homeschool for 3.5 years and I loved it and am so grateful for the chance and experience. All four of my kids are in school full time.
WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE REGIMEN?
You can read about it here.
WHAT KIND OF DOG IS FRANCES?
Frances is a black miniature pug and was the runt of her litter. We got lucky and found her on Craigslist for $75.
ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON PLACES TO EAT, THINGS TO DO, AND WHERE TO STAY IN NASHVILLE?
A few of my favorite restaurants thus far include: Cityhouse, Rolf & Daughters, Josephine, Bastion, Margot, and Mas Tacos. Also, be sure to grab a mexican popsicle at Las Paletas. They are really something special. I will update with more on this question soon.
I STILL HAVE A QUESTION, CAN I EMAIL YOU?
Yes, you can.
