A NEW YORK MINUTE

I traveled to NYC last week for work. It was a fun, brief trip. I was there for just a little over 48 hours, which is not a lot of time, but I had to get back home because my dad was arriving in Nashville the day after my return. Even though I was working, it really didn’t feel like it at all. I spent time with my friends, ate good food, shopped a little, and slept in! I didn’t take many photos because the last thing I wanted to do while walking the streets of the city was lug around my giant camera, but I did get a few. I did, however, succeed in a challenge my husband gave me. He asked if I could travel with just one small carry-on bag since I was only going to be there Monday through Wednesday. If you know me, you’re laughing, because I am the biggest over packer there is. I don’t like to plan out my outfits, because I never really know what mood I’ll be in or where I’ll be going each day, so I bring a lot of clothes and shoes to choose from, everywhere I travel. This time I packed 3 pairs of pants, which included the pair I wore on the plane, 3 shirts, a sweater, scarf, sneakers, moccasins, and pajamas—that’s it! No baggage claim, just off the plane and into a cab. It was pretty amazing. I’m not saying I’ll never check a suitcase again, but traveling light is definitely nice and something I need to practice more.

I love New York City and am excited that I’ll be traveling there for work more often. Next time I hope to stay a little bit longer.

The carry on challenge! I’m sorry to say after winning it on a holiday in Croatia, I’ve never looked back, backpacks all the way. Our boys are right…it’s amazing what I can cram in though

I am in total admiration of your carry on. I’m definitely a pack rat too. Love the view of the city from above.

Love that place- I get in trouble every time I go. Looks like you left just in time before the snow hits.

All of these photos are amazing, but that first one?! Literally, breathtaking.

So awesome to be doing something you love in places you can’t get enough of. Rock it.

Stunning photos! What camera and lens do you use? (Sorry if you’ve already answered this question elsewhere, I’m a new reader and blogger!) thank you :) – Stella

I love New York and fortunate it’s just a small train ride from here. I can NEVER just take a carry-on. I don’t see how people pack all of their liquid items in it? Would love to know how to do it.

The last time I was in New York was on a layover to Green Bay but wound up having to stay the night because my plane was leaking hydraulic fluid. :I

Looks like a great trip! I’m a serial-over-packer too, and on our 10 day trip to Europe this coming weekend, my husband is not letting me check a bag! So it’s been a HUGE (but really fun, actually) challenge figuring out how to pack for Europe, in winter, for over a week, in just a very small carry on. We’ll see how it goes! ;)

how great is travelling lightly?! sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s sooo much better than lugging a whole heap of stuff around. i just took carry on when i went to japan for 3 weeks – can’t believe i did it now, but it was completely worth it! that view out your window is amazing.

Ohh, the view from the Wythe is the best! I remember when that area was a wasteland you didn’t even think about walking through at night. Crazy that it’s now such a beautiful hotel.

Love it! Fast trips to NYC are the best. By the way, where were you when you took the photo that has the black tote bag hanging on the wall? I love it and probably need it. ;-)

I feel as if NY has a piece of my heart and I’ve never even been. If I do make it there one day, I’m sure I’ll have more than a carry on! :) props to you
