I love a good red lip. Red dresses up any look and makes you feel feminine. Generally I lean towards a more natural look from day to day, but when I want to feel a little special I’ll reach for the red. Every shade of red, whether it be a fire engine red, a pimento with a hint of orange or a dark crimson looks different on everyone. I have admired someone’s color and then tried it on myself, only to be disappointed that it didn’t complement my coloring. There are actually hundreds, if not thousands, of different reds to choose from. How do you know what works for you? They say that the best way to find your perfect red is to go into a cosmetic store like Sephora or a makeup counter like Benefit and ask a professional to match your skin tone. They can help you find your perfect shade.

Red lip tips…

  • Wear very little eye make-up. Your lips are the main focus here and just a little bit of mascara will do the trick.
  • Avoid darker shades of red if you have thin lips. They tend make them look smaller.
  • To prevent bleeding, apply a small amount of concealer around the border of your mouth.
  • To prevent your red lip from fading, fill them in with a matching lip liner before applying your lipstick.
  • Avoid getting red on your teeth by placing your index finger in your mouth and close. Then pull your finger out to get rid of any excess.
  • Wear your red lip with confidence.

My favorite reds: 08 Iconic by Jemma Kidd, Russian Red by MAC, Wild Rose by Korres and my go-to red tint is Sugar Cherry by Fresh. Do you have a favorite red?

Heat Wave by Nars. Every time I wear it I also sing this song in my head – bonus.

Love red lips, always have. My favourites are Ruby Woo by MAC (a shade I’ve worn for years) and, more recently, Rio Rio by Topshop.

Ruby Woo is a really dry lipstick so it tends to stay on a long time, but I also do a bit of a lipstick/blot/powder/repeat ritual to ensure maximum longevity.

I have a question for you: red lips AND red nail polish, or one at a time?

Ruby Woo from Mac! And definitely Vidal by Bite Beauty! I too, love all shades of red! And somehow, they all seem to compliment or go well with my skin tone! SCORE! haha

When I feeling dramatic I really like Dr. Hauschka’s 06, shown here: I think it’s a very classic red. They make a terracotta- rusty kind of red that I like too, it’s much more subtle though.

Red is also my go to. I usually only wear a bit of blush and bronzer along with a little concealer. Wearing some nice red lipstick always amps things up and makes me feel pretty! My favs are Ruby Woo by MAC for a dramatic look and Red by Mary Kay is my day to day colour. I really love the Mary Kay Red because I can play around by wearing a little bit for a pinker shade or more for a darker red. I’ve been meaning to try out some new reds and you inspired me to get on it!

What a lovely colors. I just experiment wearing red shade this holiday season since i’m more into pink shades. I think your tips will lead me more on how to choose the right shade. I just purchased riri woo by macand chanel la fascinante.

I love red on my lips but hate the red line it leaves behind around the inner lips after the rest has begun to wear off. I have searched and searched for a red that lasts and doesn’t leave me with the line. So far no luck…I know it’s out there!

I just started to experiment on wearing red hue last December for the holiday. I’m a big fan of pink lipstick and wearing red is a whole new experienced. I’ve just purchase mac riri woo and chanel la fascinante and loving it. Your tips will be a great guide.

Yes, I love red lipstick! I have bright and dark reds, and a brilliant fuschia pink! But my ultimate fave is Rio Rio by Topshop, it’s a great matte fire engine red colour. I get compliments whenever I wear it! I always feel more glamorous with lipstick on.

my favorite is ruby woo from mac. i have yet to find someone that it doesn’t look good on.

and a tip to help your lipstick last all day: apply a layer of lipstick, then pat a small amount of baby powder on your lips, then apply another layer of lipstick. works like a charm!

I love red lips! I have full lips so for a long time, I felt really self-conscious and uncomfortable in such a bold color but in the last couple of years have come to love red lipstick, especially during the holiday season, with a nice black liner on the eyes! My favorite currently is NARS velvet matte lip pencil in Cruella.

Oh I’ve always wanted to purchase a red shade but scared of getting the wrong one! Loving the Russian red colour!

I wear red lipstick almost everyday- it makes me feel so feminine and french. My absolute favorite is to layer Jane Iredale’s “Crimson” lip liner underneath Lipstick Queen’s “Saint Red” lipstick. Because of the lip liner, it lasts even after eating or drinking, and the lipstick is such a good, natural color of red; I apply it straight out of the tube then blend it a bit and it fades to this gorgeous, rosy red stained lips. I’ve even been asked if it’s my natural lip color (I wish)- it just leaves a really nice red stain throughout the day that looks completely natural. I like to pair my red lips with polished eyebrows, dewy skin, and a bit of highlighter, with some slightly tousled hair for that cool French girl look.

Sure!! My fav red is ruby woo by MAC!

I still haven’t found my perfect red. I’m loving Clinique Almost Lipstick in black honey right now for fall though! It’s about as close to lipstick as I feel comfortable wearing as of yet. Love your inspiration pics!
